Cross-border collaborative journalism – the method or develop your pitch
Cross-border collaborative journalism is a powerful journalistic method. It has been practiced for a while, and with prominent examples such as the PanamaPaper or the FootballLEaks researches, the potential is widely recognised. But how to get started?
In this 2½ hour workshop the methodology as developed by the pioneers and summarised by Brigitte Alfter will be presented in a six step model. With numerous examples the strengths and pitfalls will be illustrated. Participants will be introduced to the context and background in order to better navigate the necessary networks of peers in other countries. Particular focus will be on the start-up phase of cross-border collaborations such as the selection and development of story ideas. As an exercise participants will prepare pitches of stories they plan to work on.
