Ides Debruyne is the co-founder and managing director of Journalismfund Europe, an independent non‐profit organisation established in 1998 to facilitate independent cross-border investigative journalism by connecting donors and journalists in order to promote democracy in Europe.

Ides is also one of the founders of the Dutch-Flemish Association of Investigative Journalists.

He is the founder and chairman of SciMingo, a non-profit organisation that promotes science communication in the Dutch-speaking region of Belgium.

At the same time, today’s prize is an appeal to all persons who hold positions of responsibility in governments, in culture and in the media: be steadfast, value-oriented and also COURAGEOUS when irresponsible persons and powers undermine or relativise our values of freedom.
