Cansu is a journalist (they/them) with more than six years experience and currently works for Turkey’s online newspaper Yeşil Gazete (Green Newspaper).
They hold a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Marmara University. In their daily work, Cansu covers the climate crisis, ecology, and human side of environmental issues while reporting abuses of the rights of the LGBTQ+, women, and animals in Turkey. Acar runs workshops about these topics and video journalism as part of the Environment and Climate Change School Project in different parts of Turkey.
Acar spent years working as a field reporter for local and national newspapers. In recent events, Acar was in the field covering the 2023 protests to prevent ecocide in Akbelen Forest, Milas, Muğla, and in 2024, reporting from the gold mine accident in İliç, Erzincan.
Recently, Acar has focused on disinformation and false narratives about climate change and climate denialism. Acar reported how climate-denialist groups in Turkey recirculate the false narratives and conspiracy theories about climate change that were previously spread by far-right groups in the U.S. and Europe.
Focusing on the problems of ecocide and climate crisis, Acar try to shape the future with their reports and protect it if they can. They love turtles, frogs and cycling.
