Michael Bröcker, born in 1977 in Münster (North Rhine-Westphalia), was editor-in-chief of the Rheinische Post from 2014 to 2019 and editor-in-chief and co-owner of the media outlet The Pioneer in Berlin from 2019 to 2023. Since January 2024 he has been editor-in-chief of the media company Table.Media.

Michael Bröcker studied Economics at the University of Cologne and Journalism at Tulane University, New Orleans, before he trained with “Rheinische Post” in Duesseldorf.

He is an alumnus of the Arthur F. Burns Fellowship program and has worked among other news outlets for the Philadelphia Inquirer. He was named regional Journalist of the year from a 100- member Jury of Medium Magazine in 2017.
Michael Bröcker is married, father to a son and a daughter and lives with his family in Berlin.

At the same time, today’s prize is an appeal to all persons who hold positions of responsibility in governments, in culture and in the media: be steadfast, value-oriented and also COURAGEOUS when irresponsible persons and powers undermine or relativise our values of freedom.
