Human Rights Watch partnering the M100 Sanssouci Colloquium

Human Rights Watch has been a partner of the M100 Sanssouci Colloquium for many years and supports the conference primarily with expertise on the topics of democracy and human rights.

Germany Director Wenzel Michalski joined Human Rights Watch in September 2010 where he is responsible for communications and advocacy. Before joining Human Rights Watch, Michalski worked in journalism for more than 20 years, specializing in news and current affairs. He served as managing editor, presenter, and London bureau chief for ProSiebenSat1, one of Germany’s leading broadcasters. Prior to that, he was commissioning editor for documentaries at ARD/NDR public television. In his position, Michalski works towards giving Germany a stronger voice in support of human rights. Michalski graduated from Hamburg University, where he studied history and politics.

Wolfgang Blau to open the M100 Young European Journalists Workshop

The renowned international media manager and journalist Wolfgang Blau will give the opening speech at this year’s M100 Young European Journalists Workshop (M100YEJ) about “Reporting in Crises and the Crisis in Reporting”. In his keynote he will address how Covid-19 coverage offers lessons for reporting on the climate crisis.

Blau was global Chief Operating Officer & President, International at Condé Nast, served as Executive Director of Digital Strategy at The Guardian and as Editor-in-chief of Zeit Online, a position that won him Germany’s Chief Editor of the Year award. Currently, he is a Visiting Research Fellow at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at Oxford University where he studies the intersection of journalism and the climate crisis.

We mourn the loss of Kurt Westergaard

We mourn the loss of Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard, who died on 14 July 2021, one day after his 86th birthday. Our thoughts are with his wife Gitte and his family and friends, to whom we extend our heartfelt condolences.

Kurt Westergaard received the M100 Media Award on 8 September 2010 in recognition of his unwavering commitment to freedom of speech and expression. For his courage in standing by these democratic values and defending them regardless of threats of violence and death.
