Online Seminar: “Debate and Democracy – How to successfully counter populists”

16 March 2022. We are very much looking forward to our digital discussion with Dr Tobias Endler on the topic of “Debate and Democracy – How to successfully counter populists“. This topic has unfortunately gained great topicality in recent weeks and we will of course also address the war in Ukraine and how journalists are dealing with it. The interactive workshop for journalists, bloggers and everyone who participates in modern public discourse will take place tomorrow, Thursday, 17 March 2022, from 04:30 pm to 07:00 pm (CET) on Zoom.

We ask: How do we counter populist simplifications and all-too-simple answers regarding none-too-simple challenges in our 21st-century world? What is the best way in modern democratic society to fight hard and passionately over issues that affect us all, and yet stay connected, and aware of the common goals we’re fighting over?

M100 Alumnus Roman Melnyk: “I fight against Russian censorship”

11 March 2022. “I stayed in Ukraine and joined the so-called IT Army of Ukraine. Personally, I fight against Russian censorship. People in Russia often don’t know that their soldiers are devastating Ukrainian cities, firing rockets at civilians and killing Ukrainian people. I post on Facebook publications of Russian soldiers surrendering in Ukraine and begging for help, and I direct these posts at Russian users. The goal is to demoralise them and for them to stop sending troops to my country.

Another front is Wikipedia. Together with my cyber-fighters from the Wikipatrol initiative, we have created and updated many important Wikipedia articles about Russian propaganda, ideology and war crimes in the current war between Ukraine and Russia. I receive a lot of moral support from friends around the world and I am grateful for any help.

Olga Konsevych: “The Children are the Symbol of this War”

6 March 2022. “The children are the symbol of this war,” writes Olga Konsevych in an article published today in the pro-European British weekly “The New European”. “They travel for 15 – 20 hours on evacuation trains; they sleep fitfully in the overcrowded carriages and look anxiously through the windows of the train that is taking them into the unknown, at the destroyed world.”
Olga Konsevych is editor-in-chief of the Ukrainian news platform 24tv.ua and an M100 Alumna. In her article she describes her escape from Kiev and the fear and desperation of the Ukrainian people.
Here you can find her text in the original version.
