Mathias Müller von Blumencron was born on July 23, 1960, in Hamburg, Germany. He studied law studies and business administration in St. Gallen, Hamburg and Kiel and received his journalistic education at the Henri-Nannen-Schule (Hamburg School of Journalism). Following, he joined Capital and Wirtschaftswoche as an editor. In 1992, he joined Der Spiegel, first as editor on the national affairs desk, later as a business correspondent in Washington and New York, then from September 2000 as editor-in-chief of Spiegel Online and from 2008 to 2013 as co-editor-in-chief of Der Spiegel. From 2013 to 2017 Müller von Blumencron worked as editor-in-chief for all digital products at Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Since 2018, he is the editor-in-chief of Tagesspiegel.
