Gazmend Syla is news director and one of the founders of Klan Kosova Television, based in Prishtina, Kosovo.
Klan Kosova is considered to be leading TV station in the state and is best known for its informative and news shows.
Gazmend was head of the informative department at Klan Kosova since day one of television operation, on February 17, 2009. He leads a group of 70 excellent editors and journalists that plan and prepare news, news editions, informative and political shows and debates and informative magazines as well.
Gazmend started to work as a journalist for newspaper “Kosova Sot” few days after Kosovo war ended, in June 1999. During this period he produced daily stories on Kosovo’s difficult postwar life. The main focus of these stories was return home of the Kosovo refugees, international humanitarian aid and activities to help them with food, medicines and shelter, and Kosovo’s social and economic recovery after massive war destructions. Got involved in covering international missions present in Kosovo like UN mission in Kosovo, KFOR- NATO mission in Kosovo, OSCE, IOM, UNHCR etc.
From 2001 to 2009 covered domestic and international (UN Mission in Kosovo – OSCE – NATO/KFOR) politics for Koha ditore, the main and most influential newspaper in the country, at the time. Produced daily stories and most of them were published in newspaper’s front page. Conducted interviews with most of relevant domestic and international politicians and stakeholders in Kosovo. Covered election campaigns when elections took place. Covered also Prishtina-Belgrade status talks in Vienna (2006-2007) facilitated by late former Finish president and mediator, Mr. Martti Ahtisaari. In many occasions wrote columns published in main editorial page. When asked, did specific feature stories on specific issues.
Covered US Presidential Elections in 2016 (as visiting journalist) and 2020 (virtually).
Recognized for a very interesting and unique style of writing.
Gazmend was born on July 26, 1972 in Mitrovica, Kosovo. He finished primary and high school there. He holds a bachelor degree in political science from University of Prishtina in Kosovo and completed a Professional Development Year (PDY) at Oklahoma University in Norman, Oklahoma, US.
As a visiting professor, taught journalism to young and aspiring students as AAB College in Prishtina.
