Alexander Görlach is a senior fellow at the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs, a senior research associate at the Institute on Religion in International Studies at Clare College, Cambridge University, and an affiliate in the “In Defense of Democracy”-program by the F.D.Roosevelt Foundation at the College of Harvard University. Alex was a visiting scholar and fellow to both Harvard Center for European Studies and Harvard Divinity School in the years 2014-2017. He further served as a fellow to the Center for Humanities at Cambridge University (2017-2018). He is further a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. He is the founder of the debate magazine The European which he also ran as its editor in chief from 2009 until 2015. Today he is an op-ed contributor to the New York Times and Neue Zürcher Zeitung. He further is a columnist to Deutsche Welle and Wirtschaftswoche. His forthcoming book is “Homo Empathicus. On Scapegoats, Populists, and Saving Democracy which will be published by Brookings Institute Press (2021).
