Sven Afhüppe, born in 1971, has been Editor-in-Chief of the Handelsblatt in Düsseldorf since January 2015.
Sven began his career as a journalist after successfully completing his studies at the Georg von Holtzbrinck-School for Business Journalists in 1999 as Economic Correspondent for WirtschaftsWoche in Düsseldorf. In the beginning of 2000 he moved to Berlin to work as Economic and Financial Correspondent for WirtschaftsWoche. From 2004 he held the same position at the news magazine Der Spiegel before moving to the Berlin office of Handelsblatt in 2006.
There he was initially the Economic and Financial Correspondent before taking over the Deputy Head of the parliamentary editorial office in 2008. In October 2011 he moved to Düsseldorf as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Handelsblatt. In January 2015 this was followed by his appointment as Editor-in-Chief of the business and financial newspaper, which he headed together with Hans-Jürgen Jakobs. Since January 2016 he has been the sole Editor-in-Chief of Handelsblatt.
Sven is a member of the Atlantic Bridge and co-editor of the book “Europa kann es besser” (2019).
