Video: “For journalists, it’s time for creative destruction”

Maria Ressa, CEO Rappler

Internationally acclaimed Philippine journalist Maria Ressa in conversation with international TV host and journalist Ali Aslan.

Maria Ressa, founder and CEO of the news site Rappler, talks to international TV host and journalist Ali Aslan about her continuous fight for press freedom in the Philippines. Convicted of cyber libel, Ressa says her case is being used by President Duterte as a “cautionary tale” for other journalists. In what she describes as an existential time for journalists and society at large, the mission for quality and ethical journalism has never been as important and dangerous as it is today, she argues. Technology has become an essential tool fot journalists who, according to Ressa, will stand at the “frontlines in a post-pandemic world”: “Journalists need to embrace technology to survive. We can’t go back to the way it was.”
